By Nwakalor Ozioma Miriam The atmosphere at Site 3 on Saturday, 6th December, was one of celebration and reflection as the 31st Students’ Union Government (SUG), led by Sen. Dr. Onovughegor Augustine, approached the end of a remarkable tenure. Having accomplished several projects, including the upgrade of the Prof. Andy Egwunyenga SUG Stand at Site 2, the administration marked its final days with the grand opening of the newly renovated SUG Secretariat, site 3. The event was a vibrant mix of ceremony and recognition, combining the official unveiling of the Secretariat with the first-ever presentation of awards and certificates to past executives of the union. Judges, honourables, senators, executives, and coordinators from the 27th through the 31st SUG administrations were all honoured, a historic milestone for the union in DELSU. The programme was graced by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel O. Asagba, whose leadership has helped Delta State University, Abraka, earn recognition as the number one best state universities in Nigeria. He was joined by the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Prof. Ignatius Njoseh, and the Abraka Divisional Police Officer, CSP Kolo Musa Dauda, whose presence added weight and significance to the occasion. In a symbolic gesture, the renovated secretariat was officially named Prof. Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba SUG Secretariat, honouring the Vice-Chancellor’s unwavering support for student leadership and development. Following the unveiling, the awards and certificate presentation became the highlight of the day. Individuals whose dedication, commitment, and service to students’ unionism left lasting impressions were recognised. This was the first time in DELSU history that past executives were formally honoured in such a ceremony, making the occasion even more memorable. It is truly a fitting farewell for the 31st SUG administration-DELSU as the day ended on a high note, leaving students with memories of a leadership that sucesfully blended service and legacy.
